What we work on.
Every job starts the same way regardless of category: a free diagnosis, then a fixed written price, then the work. Nothing below is priced on this page for a reason — the same symptom can have very different causes, and quoting before diagnosing is how people end up overpaying.
Windows PC troubleshooting
Most of what we see is not one dramatic fault but an accumulation — a failing drive, a driver that never updated cleanly, six years of software installing itself at startup. We work through it methodically rather than reinstalling Windows and calling it fixed.
Typical work: startup and shutdown problems, system freezes and crash-loop diagnosis, Windows update failures, driver conflicts, storage and memory testing, overheating and fan noise, account and login lockouts, and general performance recovery.
Virus & malware removal
We identify what is actually running, remove it, close the route it came in by, and verify the machine is clean afterwards. Where an infection has touched credentials or financial accounts, we tell you plainly and help you work through the account-recovery steps.
Typical work: adware and browser-hijack removal, unwanted extension and toolbar cleanup, persistent pop-up diagnosis, rootkit and scheduled-task inspection, ransomware triage and recovery assessment, and hardening the machine so the same thing does not recur.
We will always tell you when a machine is clean. If you were sent to us by a pop-up or a phone call claiming your computer was infected, there is a good chance nothing is wrong with it, and we will say so.
Setup & installation
Setting up a new device is the single most common reason people call us, and the part that goes wrong is almost never the device itself — it is the migration. Getting fifteen years of files, photos, saved passwords and email folders onto a new machine intact takes patience.
Typical work: new PC and Mac setup, data and settings migration, printer and scanner installation, home and small-office Wi-Fi configuration, email client setup across desktop and mobile, cloud storage and backup configuration, and peripheral and monitor setup.
Mac support
Macs fail differently from PCs and are diagnosed differently. Startup issues on Apple silicon behave nothing like the Intel machines that preceded them, and a great deal of published troubleshooting advice is still written for the wrong hardware.
Typical work: macOS installation and update failures, startup and recovery-mode problems on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs, storage and APFS issues, kernel panics, Apple ID and iCloud account problems, Time Machine backup faults, application crashes and permissions, and migration from an old Mac or from Windows.
We are not an Apple Authorised Service Provider and we do not carry out warranty repairs. If your machine is in warranty or covered by AppleCare, we will tell you at diagnosis and send you to Apple rather than charge you for something they will do free.
iPhone & iPad support
Most iPhone and iPad problems are account and configuration problems rather than hardware faults, and they are the ones Apple's own support queues are least suited to unpicking patiently.
Typical work: new device setup and transfer from an old phone, iCloud storage and sync problems, Apple ID and two-factor lockouts, backup and restore, email and calendar account configuration, screen time and family sharing setup, storage cleanup, and help identifying whether a device is genuinely faulty or simply misconfigured.
We do not carry out physical repairs — cracked screens, batteries and water damage go to a repair specialist or to Apple. We handle the software and account side, and we will tell you plainly when the answer is hardware.
Printer support
Printers are the single most reliably infuriating device in any home or office, and almost none of it is the hardware's fault. The failure is usually the connection, the driver, or the queue.
Typical work: wireless and network setup, printers that show as offline when they are plainly on, driver installation and conflicts after an operating system update, print queue and spooler failures, scan-to-computer and scan-to-email configuration, sharing one printer across several machines, printing from phones and tablets, and duplex, tray and quality settings.
We support all major manufacturers across inkjet, laser and multifunction units, on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. We do not sell printers or supplies and we take no commission on either, so if the honest answer is that a six-year-old unit is not worth another service call, we will say so.
Small business IT support
Small teams tend to run on infrastructure that grew by accident. We document what you have, fix what is fragile, and give you something maintainable — without proposing an enterprise stack you do not need.
Typical work: office network design and troubleshooting, shared drives and file permissions, workstation setup and standardisation, backup strategy and verification, email and domain administration, printer and device fleets, and ongoing support arrangements for teams without an internal IT function.
Not sure which of these it is?
That is entirely normal and it is our job, not yours. Describe what the machine is doing in plain language and we will work out the category. There is no charge for finding out.
